"I received a frantic phone call one
day from a referral candidate that explains the story behind
this firm quite well. This candidate was a mid-level corporate
associate at a big New York firm. He had gone to an Ivy
League college and did well at a top 20 law school. Needless
to say, this guy had worked hard, and had carefully chosen
which steps to take to build up his career. He was billing
nearly 3000 hours per year at his firm. His wife had recently
given birth to their first child, and he was never home.
He wanted to make a lateral move to a firm that would give
him the opportunity to do sophisticated work while being
able to see his kid once in a while during waking hours.
A month or so before the call, he had sent his resume to
another recruiting firm. Apparently, the recruiter there
spoke with him for a few minutes and then 'blanketed' his
resume to over thirty firms in the city. Suffice it to say
that the resume was in need of repair when it was sent and
that he hadn't heard from the recruiter again after the
first contact. She never returned his calls, and, in his
words, his lateral move was 'foiled by a telemarketer'.
I had to wait awhile to undo the damage done, but I was
able to place him later in the year with some creative sales
and marketing."

| Stories like this were
the driving force behind the creation of this firm.
Hiretrends, Inc. was founded by New York lawyers who
recognized the importance of a lateral move and wanted something
more from a search firm. They set out to create a firm that
did more than just the typical "bulk fax and wait for
a response" routine. They saw the need for personal relationships
with candidates - relationships that revolved around trust.
They saw the need to "counsel" candidates - to assist
them in making "smart", educated decisions in their
lateral moves. They saw the need for creativity and aggressive
follow up in the job search process. Most of all, they set
out to create a firm with a powerful ability to market its
candidates to law firm clients.
